Media Release - Albany to host key regional development meetings

Albany will be on show in October when it hosts two premier conferences about economic prosperity and development in regional Australia.
Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash has today announced that the 2016 Regional Development Australia (RDA) National Forum will be held in the Western Australian city to coincide with the Sustainable Economic Growth for Regional Australia (SEGRA).
Minister Nash said she is pleased to see these two important regional conferences meeting this year together in Albany, the cultural hub of the Great Southern Region of Western Australia.
“Aligning the two events provides a unique opportunity for RDA Committee members to explore key issues affecting regional Australia,” Minister Nash said.
“It will also provide an opportunity to share skills and experience with other like-minded participants to drive economic growth and development in our regions.
“Our regions - like the Great Southern - are integral to the prosperity of the Australian economy. It is essential that we assist regions to realise their full potential in a range of industries including agriculture and tourism.”
Federal Member for O’Connor Rick Wilson said Albany is the perfect destination for the conferences.
“SEGRA is Australia’s premier conference on regional issues. It identifies the techniques, skills and issues needed in Regional Australia to achieve successful economic growth and development,” Mr Wilson said.
“It will be fantastic to see this event align with the RDA National Forum here in regional Western Australia.”
Mayor of the City of Albany Dennis Wellington said the event will attract delegates from across Australia.
“More than 300 delegates from all over the country are expected to attend the conference,” Mayor Wellington said.
“This is an excellent opportunity for us to showcase everything that our region has to offer and attract potential future investment into our region.”
The RDA National Forum will be held on 25 October, followed by the SEGRA conference 26-28 October.
