Wheatbelt livestock forums
Federal Member for O’Connor Rick Wilson and Western Australia Senator Chris Back will be touring the Wheatbelt on Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 July to host three livestock forums in Darkan, Katanning and Kulin.
Topics of discussion will include the recently signed free trade agreements with Korea and Japan, live export issues and disputing animal welfare groups.
Mr Wilson said these forums are a great way to hear directly from people in the agriculture industry who are working in the current economic and political climate.
“Having worked with my brother on our family farm for the past 25 years I do understand the issues that are facing the agricultural industry but as your federal member I want to hear about the intricacies of each region’s farming and the impact of policy changes
“I specifically asked Senator Chris Back to join me in hosting these forums because he has such a vast background in agriculture and animal husbandry and is one of the foremost defenders of the livestock industry in Federal Parliament,” Mr Wilson said.
Senator Chris Back graduated as a veterinarian and worked predominantly in large animal practice in Western Australia, Victoria and the United States before lecturing at Muresk Institute of Agriculture.
During the forums discussion will also centre on what the coalition government is doing to help farmers in regional WA.
