$160 million for the Outback Way
Federal Member for O’Connor Rick Wilson MP says the Turnbull Government has reaffirmed its commitment to regional Australia with the announcement of an additional $160 million to seal the Outback Way.
Today’s commitment takes the Coalition’s total investment in the Outback Way to $330 million, demonstrating the Government is serious in its support for developing Australia’s longest shortcut.
Mr Wilson said the Government’s latest investment would ensure work continued on the Outback Way beyond 2020.
“I met with a delegation from the Outback Way Development Council in Canberra last month, and they were very keen to secure additional Government support to ensure work the project would continue well into the future,” he said.
“This project is significant for the nation, but it’s particularly vital for Laverton and the northern Goldfields, as it will provide a direct route to the east coast.
“I’m anticipating that there will be approximately $54 million allocated to Western Australia for roughly 150km of priority projects.
“Sealing this route will offer huge economic benefits by improving infrastructure and connectivity for the mining, agricultural and tourism industries.
“I think it’s an essential project for Australia, and this further $160 million demonstrates that the Coalition is committed to making this dream a reality.”
