Southern Cross receives Anzac Centenary funding
Federal Member for O’Connor Rick Wilson today announced funding of $5,500 has been awarded to the Shire of Yilgarn to support restoration of the Yilgarn War Memorial in Southern Cross.
Mr Wilson said the funding was delivered through the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program, enabling communities to support the centenary commemorations at a local level.
“By giving communities the opportunity to secure funding for projects that preserve the stories of local servicemen and women we are ensuring the memories are around for future generations to come.
“The grant will complement the wider series of commemorative activities that have been developed throughout our electorate,” Mr Wilson said.
Each electorate, across Australia, had $125,000 available for community and ex-service groups to spend on commemorative programs.
“I would like to thank the members of the Electorate Committee who have assisted me in developing an approach for commemorating the Anzac Centenary across O’Connor; their hard work has made these activities, through the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program, a reality,” he said.
The Centenary of Anzac will mark a century of service and sacrifice, encompassing all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations in which Australians have been involved.
“It will be the most significant period of commemoration in our nation’s history and the Government is committed to providing opportunities for all Australians to participate.”
