Funding for O’Connor Men’s Sheds

FEDERAL Member for O’Connor Rick Wilson is pleased to announce that two O’Connor Men’s Sheds has been awarded funding under round 17 of the Government’s National Shed Development Programme.

Cranbrook Men’s Shed has been awarded $2,250 to purchase a defibilator, while Katanning men’s Shed have received $6,500 to refurbish its run down toilet block.

“These Men’s Sheds offer support to any local men who need a bit of space and some friendly, easy-going company,”Mr Wilson said.

“Men are often the last ones to make their health and wellbeing a priority. It’s imperative that we do what we can to ensure they get the support they need and deserve.

The Morrison Government recognises these benefits and is investing a total of $5.1 million over three years to the national men’s sheds movement.

“Men are talking about their health more and more and the men’s shed provides a safe and friendly environment for them to do so,” Mr Wilson said.

“Men’s sheds are integral to the community and their benefits to men’s general health and wellbeing are widely acknowledged.

Federal Heath Minister Greg Hunt said feeling part of a social group is important to our emotional and mental health.

“Every day Men’s Sheds across Australia provide men with an opportunity for companionship and support within their community,” Minister Hunt said.

The Men’s Shed Grants Programme provides funding for health improvement activities, the purchase of tools and equipment, community projects and training, and for building maintenance and development.

I was inspired to run for Parliament following my involvement in a decade-long campaign to deregulate the wheat industry, which brought about the end of the Australian Wheat Board’s monopoly.

“I stand proudly for the Liberal philosophy of free markets, vigorous competition, small government and individual responsibility. These are the principles that guide me in my life and in this place. My track record in public life shows clearly that I am prepared to stand up for those principles.”

“To the electors of O'Connor, I reiterate the commitment that I have made to work tirelessly on your behalf, to always be frank and honest about the challenges we face, and to work cooperatively and collaboratively to improve the lives of the people who live in the greatest part of the greatest nation on earth”
