Major boost for elderly in Kondinin

KONDININ’S Yeerakine Lodge aged care facility has been given a major facelift, complete with four new accommodation units and a spacious communal lounge area.

Federal Member for O’Connor Rick Wilson said the $920,000 upgrade gives the town’s elderly people the opportunity to live independently while family, friends and health services remain within easy reach.

“We all know how important aged care services are for our elderly residents, their families and the general community and these improvements will significantly increase capacity to better support the region’s ageing population, “ Mr Wilson said.

Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government John McVeigh said in addition to extra accommodation for elderly residents, the project will give the local economy a boost.

“The extension of Yeerakine Lodge supported 20 jobs during construction and has created two permanent roles. It also gives medical and allied health providers a modern a place to work and will raise the profile of Kondinin as a place of choice for retirement,” Dr McVeigh said.

Shire of Kondinin President Sue Meeking said the upgrade will provide the community with long-lasting benefits.

“Congratulations to all involved and special recognition to the Coalition Government in supporting our project. Without this financial support, it is unlikely that this project would have gone ahead,” Cr Meeking said.

The project was jointly funded with the Coalition Government investing $600,000, the Shire of Kondinin providing $171,902 and Kondinin Kulin Aged Care providing $150,000.

I was inspired to run for Parliament following my involvement in a decade-long campaign to deregulate the wheat industry, which brought about the end of the Australian Wheat Board’s monopoly.

“I stand proudly for the Liberal philosophy of free markets, vigorous competition, small government and individual responsibility. These are the principles that guide me in my life and in this place. My track record in public life shows clearly that I am prepared to stand up for those principles.”

“To the electors of O'Connor, I reiterate the commitment that I have made to work tirelessly on your behalf, to always be frank and honest about the challenges we face, and to work cooperatively and collaboratively to improve the lives of the people who live in the greatest part of the greatest nation on earth”
